The beautiful village of Monolithos Village
is located in the southwest of the island of Rhodes island.
Monolithos village with narrow cobbled streets, whitewashed stone houses, stunning sea views and balconies overflowing with red geraniums! The main attraction is the imposing medieval Venetian castle located just outside the village, on top of a rock, among the pines .The castle was built in 1480 by the Knights of St. John to protect the raids on the island .The only thing that remains of the castle today is the ruins of a chapel that offers a wonderful sea view .The access to the castle is easy.
In a very close distance from the village is the calm sheltered bay of Fournoi , ideal for those who love pebbles and crystal waters .The charm of Monolithos comes from the shape of an amphitheater, as well as the houses that give the impression of climbing the hill to the castle!
